The Beginning

To get a sense of the scope of this trip and what it means, you need to know how it all started and how it finally came to this place. It also wouldn't hurt to read or summarize some of the following books: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge (The teachings of Don Juan) , A Separate Reality(Further Conversations with Don Juan), both by Carlos Castenada, Chariots of the Gods(ErichVon Daniken), the Outer Space Connection (Alan Landsberg) Aztec (Gary Jennings) and any and all National Geographic Magazines that deals with anything Mexico)

Almost 20 years ago, my best friend/bro and I (Greg...and he will be doing his share of posting here, so don't worry) after reading and falling in love with Carlos Castenada's Mexico, fueled by all things Meso-American(especially the pre and classic period of the Aztec empire) a healthy dose of ErichVon Daniken and a smattering of conspiracy theory, we started planning the ultimate trip...one part tourist, one part research and one part spiritual...well as they saying goes "the best laid plans of mice and men..."and our paths went in very different directions, I somehow jumped onto a path that would see me marry my future ex-wife and have a family, the more practical and mature path I guess, Tristan and Darien were the results and I wouldn't trade them for anything as they are growing up to be fine young men, I truly am proud of both of them. In spite of this, Greg maintained his course and his path did lead him to Mexico and even further south then I think even he thought he'd go, right into the heart of the Maya. As you might well imagine, our friendship was duly tested because I bailed on him, luckily it all came back and we're still best friends and brothers, I am very thankful for that as who else but a best friend would put up with so much of my bullshit over the years?

Over the course of time, there were token, half hearted attempts to fulfill the promise we made to each other and take the trip to the heart of the one world, all attempts resulted in one or the other of us doing something else or having other commitments (kids and careers, other relationships etc). Finally earlier this year ('07) I broke out of a relationship that in the end had me being no more than a marionette in it, suddenly I let go and was free!, but this is stuff that you really don't want to know, suffice to say choices were made, mistakes were made, choices were made again and I came out free and still me....The End.

Anyway, on a whim I called Greg just to see where he was in life...and yes to get a bit of sympathy/empathy from him as well, only to find out that he did have the time, money and inclination to make the trip...his partner Cindi told me that she would never stand in his way as even though she has been with Greg a relatively short time she understood the importance of the trip (Greg told her about the plans we had made so long ago) and gave her blessings to both of us...what a special, trusting woman! Love ya Cin!!

This journey will either sate our passion and desire for Mexico or fuel it even more, I hope for the latter to tell the truth. So... now we have come full circle and on January 15 we leave from Sea/Tac to The Heart of the One World and I/we are very excited.
Should you decide to follow our exploits via this BLOG you may get the feeling that Greg and I are on some sort of spiritual journey, and at time of writing this it does certainly feel that way for me anyway, I can't speak for Greg on this matter...although if I had to bet, I'd say yes for him too...otherwise why would he have called me late one night about a month ago telling me that we just had to chronicle this journey and maybe even publish it?

The places that we are going to visit are the places that (some theorists think) have proof that the Maya and Azteca had been visited and assisted in setting up the empire by visitors not of this world...Giants at Tula, Teothuican and El Tajin and Cacaxtla to name four (read Chariots of the Gods circa 1972) and hey! December 21/2012 is just barely 4 years away and if you believe the hieroglyphs at Chitzen Itza and Tikal or Tula...the Calender ends (and so does the world some also speculate) and Quetzalcoatl and his Maya come back to see how their experiment worked out (are they in for a dismal shock!!) and take everybody home with him (sound familiar?...that story by the way pre-dates Christianity). This might very well be a research pre-trip to one that maybe taken again in 2012. So there it is...you now know why we're doing this even though it may sound a bit strange...it'll be fun! Follow along with the map, it'll be like a treasure hunt.
